Stainless steel annular corrugated flexible hoses can be supplied with or without stainless steel wire braiding. Wire braiding can be single or double. Generally, an external layer of SS wire braid is provided on corrugated metal hoses, as an unbraided hose tends to elongate axially when pressure is applied. Some customers may even choose two or even three layers of braiding for high pressure applications. The braiding is highly flexible and follows the movement of the hose.

Stainless Steel (SS) Corrugated Flexible Hose Pipes – Construction

Stainless steel 304 wires are widely used to manufacture the braid over metal hoses. On customer requests we can also manufacture braids in other stainless steel grades such as SS 321 and SS 316L. Double braided hoses improve the pressure rating of an assembly by at least 30%.

There are two basic types of corrugated metal hoses, which are distinguished by the type of corrugation used during manufacturing: helical or annular corrugation. METLINE metal hoses are manufactured using the annular corrugation method.

SS wire braded flexible hose pipes are used in various industries to carry gases and liquids at elevated pressure or temperatures or high vacuum. A stainless steel hose pipe comprises of an inner hydroformed corrugated thin walled tube which is externally braided or unbraided as per requirements of our customers.

BS 6501-1:2004 gives guidance on the installation of corrugated metal hose assemblies and on the selection of the method of construction, the flexibility type and the material used for the hose.

BS 6501-1:2004 is complementary to BS EN ISO 10380.

End Connections – SS Flexible/Wire Braided Hose Pipes

METLINE also manufactures complete range of end fittings/connections made from carbon steel, mild steel, stainless steel and brass for stainless steel flexible hoses. The end connections are either TIG (argon) welded or brazed.
